Ages three to nine. Three-year-olds answer simple questions; eight- and nine-year-olds enjoy the stories and the fact that Santa really listens.
From three: children answer yes-or-no questions and show things to the camera. Santa uses short sentences and waits patiently.
Four to seven is the sweet spot. Children believe, talk freely, and Santa's stories (the countdown in the sleigh, the sleeping reindeer) work best.
Eight and nine: children test Santa. He knows their name, their hobby and the note you wrote, which usually settles it. The wish-list and golden-star calls suit this age.
Ten and up: possible, but many children at this age have stopped believing. A birthday call can still be a fun joke.
Each story page says which ages it suits. The Sleeping Reindeer is for three to seven; the others for three to nine.
