Twelve things your child can ask Santa
Children often freeze when Santa asks 'and what would you like to ask me?' Here are twelve questions that get great answers, grouped by age.
For three- and four-year-olds
- What do the reindeer eat?
- Is it cold at the North Pole?
- Do you like cookies or carrots best?
- Does Rudolph's nose really glow?
For five- to seven-year-olds
- How do you get into a house without a chimney?
- How do you fit all the presents in one sleigh?
- What do the elves do in summer?
- Have you ever got stuck in a chimney?
For eight- and nine-year-olds
- How do you visit every house in one night?
- What does Mrs Claus do on Christmas Eve?
- What is the strangest thing a child ever left out for you?
- Did you ever get a letter you could not read?
Three questions to skip
'Will I get the bike?' Santa never promises a present, so the answer is always a warm dodge.
'Where do you live exactly?' Santa jokes about the North Pole and moves on.
'Are you real?' Santa says that he is talking to you right now, and asks about your tree. For older children, decide beforehand how you want this handled.
- Can my child ask anything?
- Yes. Santa answers in character and kindly. If a question is too personal or sad, he listens and gently returns to the story.
- Does Santa remember earlier calls?
- No. Each call starts fresh. Write what matters in the note; that is what he knows.
